7/10/05 Op Have Fun II
- Skirmish with KAPOWWE!
- Operation Have Fun II
There were major last minute changes, it was as hotter than Texas in July... hey wait a minute, and there were some encounters with the native wildlife, but this made the day even more eventful. We had a great adventure this past Sunday skirmishing with friends and fellow airsofters.
Timeline of Events:
We arrived at Survival Game of Texas at 9:15AM to a fairly large crowd all dressed in woodland camo and ready for combat. Unfortunately, the Survival Game of Texas had not opened yet. Fearing the worst, we started to formulate a "plan B". We phoned/paged another well known paintball field that caters to airsoft called Brazos Survival Games (BSG). After approximately 15 mins, the owner of BSG called back and stated that we were more than welcome to come skirmish at his field. By this time it was approximately 9:45AM. We discussed with everyone this new option and decided it was time for a 40 min road trip to BSG.
Soon as a few folks hit the road, an employee of the Survival Game of Texas arrived to open the field. He was very apologetic and explained why he was running late, but we had already set our "plan B" in motion and could not stay. These things happen, and in no way do we think less of Survival Games of Texas. They are always outgoing and courteous towards us, in fact they called later in the day to apologize again. We will be coming back to Survival Game of Texas to skirmish very soon.
We ended up loosing one player who could not go on to the next location (sorry Ben, you were missed). We arrived at BSG at approximately 11:00AM. We began unloading our gear, signing wavers, and splitting up into 2 teams.
The owner of BSG (Keith) went out of his way to make sure we had a place to play and to answer all our questions. Since most of us had never played at this location, he gave us a guided tour of the fields.
This is an outstanding place for airsoft. There are approximately 60 acres of woods, fields, forts, towers, platforms, and much of the terrain is thick with trees, but little undergrowth so you can maneuver fairly easily. Here in the Gulf Coast Riegon of Texas we get a ton of rain so the wooded areas are typically a thick impenetrable forest almost like a South American Jungle. When you have wooded areas that have little to no undergrowth in this area of Texas, it is a rare and more enjoyable battlefield.
We learned that there were 2 forts about 3/4 of a mile away from each other. Each was hidden deep within woods but separated by a dry clear field/bayou. The mission was simple. Each team was to defend their fort and capture the other; everyone had 3 lives and their fort was the re-spawn point. After quickly splitting up into two teams, we each started heading toward the directions of our forts.
Along the way we quickly learned about the cute miniature spiders called "cow spiders" that homesteaded between every 2 trees. For some reason some of the crew didn't like these cuddly creatures walking across their face masks, even crawling up their necks seemed to bother them a little. I had one hitch a ride on my M4 for a short time during the day. Figured, he might come in handy during close quarter combat.
We arrived at our fort and radioed to the other group that the game was on. After separating into 4 smaller groups, and we began heading to the far left, to the far right, up the middle, and another stayed to defend.
Stealth was tough so you had to maneuver from tree to tree and belly crawl to get close to the enemy. When the other team was engaged you had to lay down fire to move, and try and out flank them before they out flanked you.
Few photos of the other team's fort.

After the battle was complete we headed back to base camp to drown ourselves in H20. It was easily 95-100 degrees that day so we kept after everyone to continuously drink water. If you didn't chug H20 every 15mins, you were hurting. Can't complain too much about the heat. Much rather it be too hot than too cold any day.
Checkout the red faces.
After resting, re-hydrating, and discussing the last battle, it was time for another. We needed a fairly quick mission since by this time it was 1:30PM and it was hotter than... well it was hot, and we had pizza on it's way. Save the MRE's and granola bars for another day, Pappas Johns delivers to this place.
Mike, from the Task Force Alphas came up with an ideal mission! We had a fort in the center of the battlefield. Each team was to pick a re-spawn point at either side of the battlefield and each player had unlimited lives. The mission was to take and hold this 2 story fort in the middle of the battlefield. Whichever team had the fort at 2:00PM, won the mission. On your mark... get set... go! Each team made a run for the fort. The fort switched teams several times during the first half of the game. Eventually one team took and held the fort up until 2:00PM. I really enjoyed playing this fast pace and constantly changing scenario. One minute you are lobbing grenades to overtake, the next minute you are unloading your magazines as fast as you can to defend. You can try a maneuver, if it fails, you run back to the re-spawn point and get back in the action.
Here is a short clip from the top of the fort [play video]
It was now 2:00PM and most everyone is zapped from the heat. Perfect time to breakout the Pizza! We all inhaled a few slices, drink several gallons of H20, talked about the battle, and discussed airsoft in general.
Conclusion:
On Sunday 7/11/05 we had a total of 23 people show up to have some fun slinging BBs. If you are just getting into airsoft, or have been in it for years, come join us the next time we meet. Nothing too serious, as you can see this is a wide range of age groups from 13+ just getting together to skirmish and have some fun.
Watch the Kapowwe.com homepage for details on the next gathering "Operation Have Fun III".
Old Information:
- When?
- Meet us at the Survival Game of Texas this Sunday (7/10/05) 9:00AM to play some airsoft, and to meet other airsoft enthusiasts. This is not a sponsored event, this is an informal skirmish intended for you to meet others who enjoy airsoft, use your airsoft weaponry, and to have some fun. Members of the Kapowwe Company will be there to answer any questions, and to play as well.
- If this is your first time to play or countless time, every skill level is welcomed. The age limit to play on the field is 13+. There will be a wide range of ages playing.
- When you drive up to the field, it should be easy to spot the group. Look for the only group with airsoft guns, walk-up and say hello. If you arrive late and we have already moved from the front, go inside the paintball shop, tell them you are there to play airsoft, sign the release form, pay the field fee, and they will direct you to us.

- Missions?
- Fortress, Western town, Vietnam, open
- Question?
- How old do you have to be?
- Answer: Survival Game of Texas requires that you are 13+ years old.
- Question?
- Is this a serious group of players?
- Answer:
- No, We are not drill sergeants and not establishing a ranking system. This is simply for you to come meet other players in the Houston area and to get outside and enjoy airsoft (i.e. get ready to spray LOTS of bb's).
- Question?
- I do not have a high-end airsoft gun yet, can I still compete?
- Answer:
- Anyone who comes to play will have a good time; however, you will have a difficult time competing with a lower-end gun. We suggest a high-end AEG or at least a spring action or gas airsoft gun. We will have 1-2 high-end AEGs to rent at $25.00 per gun. This includes (1) high cap mag.
- Question?
- I have an upgraded rifle, can I use it.
- Answer:
- All rifles should be shooting below 400fps w/ .20 gram.
- Question?
- How much does this cost?
- Answer:
- Just the field fee of $15.00 + tax
- Question?
- What should I bring?
- Answer:
- 1. High-end airsoft gun, charged battery, bb's, gas....etc
- 2. Full face mask / Goggles (needs to cover the eyes entirely). A paintball mask is the best choice.
- 3. LOTS of water (it will be 90+ degrees and approximately 80%-90% humidity). Drink lots of water the day before!
- 4. Snacks... we may play until 3:00-4:00
- 5. The terrain can be very dense. Bring woodland BDUs (i.e. camo pants and shirt)
