7/24/05 Op Have Fun III
- Skirmish with KAPOWWE!
- Operation Have Fun III
On Sunday 7/24/05 19 fellow airsoft players met up at Survival Game of Texas to sling some BBs. Even with the Texas heat, we had a great time tearing up the battlefield. We had some good laughs this day too! Here are a few of the highlights.....
The Day:
We arrived at Survival Game of Texas at 9:00AM. We were not the first to arrive, a few new players were already on the scene unpacking and preparing for battle. We went in to sign the field's wavier. The owner of Survival Game of Texas (SGT) was there and in typical fashion friendly and was accommodating. SGT is a paintball field. This can be problematic when airsoft/paintball players are waiting for the same fields. They have accommodated us by allocating approximately 20 acres towards strictly airsoft. And since the paintball crowd does not show-up until 1:00PM on Sunday, we have access to all the fields and with no time limits.
We started unpacking our gear and meeting the other players.
A new crew arrived named Fox Unit, which is a sub group of the Silent Knights here in the Houston area. These guys were a lot of fun, and were skilled on the battlefield. Here are a few moments of the day.
Preparing for battle....
"The Fortress". One team holds the castle and the other conquers.
When these guys take a tower, they are staying for awhile!

Waiting to cool down.
One member decided to switch weapons during the day, so he picks-up his TM Famas, slaps on a beret, and states "I'm going French". Here is a "surrender" moment from him during a battle.

Graeme with his new MadBull Grenade Launcher and Classic Army M4 was tearing up the battlefield, but he was caught off guard for a moment at the Fortress.

We played "The Fortress" a few times that day, because it's a blast!. It's funny... this game seems to always come down to Travis, and Travis is not afraid to be the last man standing. He will fight until the very end. But Sunday was Travis' day for weaponry failure. Every gun that was handed to him seemed to have issues. Travis took it in stride and still had a good time. Here are the final moments of the "Fortress battle"...

Need another.. BOOOOOOM !!!... never mind. [ play movie ]
After a game at the Fortress we made our way to the Western Town. Keeping the same teams, each team moved to opposite sides of the field.
Bryant was also taking photos that day, and with some quality equipment. These turned out really nice. Here is the link:

Hector has been joining us on the battlefield each weekend. Here is a clip of Hector making a move on the other team.

We made our way back to the base camp, reloaded, cooled down, and planned the next mission.
Here is Oliver resting up and discussing airsoft weaponry.

Mike recently purchased a Classic Army 249 SAW. Sunday was the first day for this new support weapon on a battlefield. There was momentary issues with the magazine feeding (Mike, this is fixed now...bringing it to you this Sunday!). The 249 has a very high rate of fire. With a 170% spring upgrade, the FPS jumped to 379, and with a 2400 round box magazine... watch out for this monster on the field... it can be very effective.

Our next game was a personal favorite.... We made our way over to Vietnam Village which is approximately 10-15 wooded acres. At one end there is a hill covered in sand bags, barrels, trenches...etc. We decided to play a "take and hold" scenario. Each team was to take and hold the same hill. We had infinite lives but had to re-spawn at separate bases. The team that had the hill at 2:10PM, won the scenario. Each team started at equal distances away from the hill, when the whistle was blew... it was ON!

We have never given a "Most Valued Player" (MVP) award... but we should. This was Brian's first time to join us on the battlefield... if you ever see this guy show-up to play, make sure he is on your team!
Best sprint. On your mark get set.... RUN [ play movie ]

Even the "best" shot of the day....
And this guy.... we aren't claiming him until he does something about that hair. :)
We had a great time this past Sunday. Come join us the next time we get together to play.
Old Information:
- When?
NOTE: Proper eye protection is a must! Shooting glasses are NOT proper eye protection. "Screen masks" are only rated for 300 fps and should not be worn. Everyone must have ANSI rated masks/goggles. Purchase a paintball facial mask (Academy, Oshmans, Walmart) and remove and use the mask portion. That is what we use on the field. They do not fog, and they protect the eyes fully. We will have these available to purchase from Kapowwe in the future, but do not wait until we do, please get one elsewhere before joining us on the field.

NOTE: This is not a "Kapowwe" sponsored event. We are simply there to play and assist in organizing the game play.
- Where?
- Sunday 7/24/05 9:00 AM until around 3:00-4:00PM (up to you)
When you drive up to the field, it should be easy to spot the group. Look for the only group with airsoft guns, walk-up and say hello. If you arrive late and we have already moved from the front, go inside the paintball shop, tell them you are there to play airsoft, sign the release form, pay the field fee, and they will direct you to us.

- Missions?
- Fortress, Western town, Vietnam, open
- Question?
- How old do you have to be?
- Answer: Survival Game of Texas requires that you are 13+ years old. You must have have a parent or guardian sign a field wavier.
- Question?
- Is this a serious group of players?
- Answer:
- No, We are not drill sergeants and not establishing a ranking system. This is simply for you to come meet other players in the Houston area and to get outside and enjoy airsoft (i.e. get ready to spray LOTS of bb's).
- Question?
- I do not have a high-end airsoft gun yet, can I still compete?
- Answer:
- Anyone who comes to play will have a good time; however, you will have a difficult time competing with a lower-end gun. We suggest a high-end AEG or at least a spring action or gas airsoft gun. We will have 1-2 high-end AEGs to rent at $25.00 per gun. This includes (1) high cap mag.
- Question?
- I have an upgraded rifle, can I use it.
- Answer:
- All rifles should be shooting below 400fps w/ .20 gram.
- Question?
- How much does this cost?
- Answer:
- Just the field fee of $15.00 + tax
- Question?
- What should I bring?
- Answer:
- 1. High-end airsoft gun, charged battery, bb's, gas....etc
- 2. Full face mask / Goggles (needs to cover the eyes entirely). A paintball mask is the best choice. Shoot glasses are not appropriate.
- 3. LOTS of water (it will be 90+ degrees and approximately 80%-90% humidity). Drink lots of water the day before!
- 4. Snacks... we may play until 3:00-4:00
- 5. The terrain can be very dense. Bring woodland BDUs (i.e. camo pants and shirt)
